One of my favorite Greek words in the original writings of
the New Testament is "katergazomai' or "to work out" in the
English. You can locate it in your Strong's concordance under
#2716. This particular word signifies to accomplish or work out
something fully to a point of utter completion, or success, with nothing
lacking or left wanting. In Philippians 2:12 the exhortation is to carry out or work out
our salvation to an utter completion, growing up into Christ in all things. Wherefore, my
beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much
more in my absence, work
out your own salvation with fear and trembling. The command is in the
middle voice signifying that the responsibility is ours, and it shall be
done through implicit obedience, much prayer, and through accurate
knowledge of the word. Another favorite scripture of mine is found in
Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye
may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand, : We are encouraged here to take
the whole armor of God and having done all to stand, to stand therefore.
"Having done all" is once again the word
"katergazomai.' Simply stated it depicts
us as warriors in that terrible struggle against the world, Satan,
and sin. The big ball of dull is kicked up as were engage in these
gladiator struggles of life. When the dust finally settles we remain
standing victoriously, as Satan, sin and the world lay scattered at our
feet. Once again my brethren, the command is to carry out all things to a
complete victory. The reason why the church is so weak is because few obey this
scripture. Other exciting scriptures that contain "katergazomai" is 2
Corinthians 9:11. Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us
thanksgiving to God. Here a life, and a spirit of
bountifulness, liberality and generosity " works
out" thanksgiving to God by many. 2 Cor 12:12 states that our
ministry must be fully carried out or "katergazomai" in patience
and in the manifestation of the full power of God. Truly the
signs of an apostle were
wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty
deeds.
In Romans
15:8 Paul states that he will not boast in any fleshly endeavor
or works but only in that which the Christ has fully worked or
katergazomai out through his life. For I will
not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to
make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, 2
Cor 4:17 is an encouragement to us that our light and momentary affliction
fully accomplishes or katergazomai in us an eternal weight of glory. For our light affliction, which
is but for a moment, worketh
for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 2 Corinthians 7:10 describes to
that us godly sorrow "katergazomai" repentance. For godly
sorrow worketh
repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world
worketh death. James
1:3 is similar in that it describes to that us that the testing of our
faith fully works out patience, and patience when it is carried out to its
end creates a complete or mature godly character. Knowing
this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. On the negative side Romans 1:27
shows us the grave error of homosexuality. And likewise also the men,
leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another;
men with men working
that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their
error which was meet. The bondage of such sin
causes those in it to accomplish or katergazomai that which
is unseemly in the eyes of God, and a consequence of divine
retribution. Romans 2:9 tells us that tribulation and anguish will come
upon everyone that fully carries out or katergazomai evil practices to an
extreme. Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew
first, and also of the Gentile; Finally James 1:3 tells us
that the wrath of man can never accomplish the righteousness of God, Knowing
this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience, and Peter
4:3 encourages us that the sufficient has been the time for us to
work out or katergazomai the will of the flesh and earthly desires. For
the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked
in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and
abominable idolatries: |
